Chambersburg, Pa. �鶹��Ƶ — Two free exhibitions of abstract paintings will open Wednesday, Sept. 7, at �鶹��Ƶ, featuring the work of Lancaster artist Daniel Burns in Lortz Hall �鶹��Ƶ ’s Bogigian Gallery and Chambersburg artist Peter Mazzone in the John Stewart Memorial Library �鶹��Ƶ ’s Cooley Gallery.

Receptions to mark the openings will be held at the artists �鶹��Ƶ ’ respective venues from 5 to 7 p.m. Burns will give an artist �鶹��Ƶ ’s talk at 6 p.m. in Bogigian Gallery.

The Burns exhibition, Recent Work, is a collection of paintings from 2014-15 created in Massachusetts and Pennsylvania. �鶹��Ƶ “Each [painting] is an invention representing a moment in time, a fleeting time spent in a studio, a new beginning, �鶹��Ƶ ” said Burns, who describes painting for him as a �鶹��Ƶ “desire �鶹��Ƶ ” �鶹��Ƶ “calling, �鶹��Ƶ ” and a �鶹��Ƶ “privilege. �鶹��Ƶ ” He works to document experiences, relying on instinct and atmosphere. For him, these works reflect a sense of place, which is deeply rooted in American painting.

Burns teaches at Elizabethtown College and is a supervisor of art, world languages and music at Conestoga Valley School District. He holds an M.F.A. from Catholic University and has exhibited across the and abroad in Taiwan and Hungary.

Daniel Burns, Recent Work will continue through Oct.14. The Bogigian Gallery is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays or by appointment.

�Ѳ������DzԱ� �鶹��Ƶ ’s Progressions is a collection of new paintings inspired by the artist �鶹��Ƶ ’s desire to �鶹��Ƶ “remedy the world around them by and through art. �鶹��Ƶ ” He says he is interested in the �鶹��Ƶ “purity of intuition �鶹��Ƶ ” and �鶹��Ƶ “the consciousness of seeing. �鶹��Ƶ ”

Mazzone has a bachelor �鶹��Ƶ ’s degree in studio art and art history from Principia College, a small liberal arts college similar to Wilson. Mazzone does not actively pursue exhibition venues, but his work is held in many private collections throughout North America.

Peter Mazzone, Progressions will continue through Jan. 27, 2017. The Sue Davison Cooley Gallery is open from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday; 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday; and 1 to 11 p.m. Sunday.
